The Aquila SofTech Cushion helps heal and prevent pressure injuries.

SofTech Customization Options

Our SofTech wheelchair cushion system is not an “off the shelf” product. You will likely never see our cushion system in a pharmacy or sitting on a shelf in medical equipment dealer facility.  If you do, please know that it is not customized or programmed for you (please use caution and call us with questions).

We custom fabricate each system to address the end-user’s specific physical characteristics and health status for maximum effectiveness so every cushion is unique.

Our order form has several questions to help gather the information we need in order to build the cushion. We can also use input from the caregivers, clinicians, and seating specialists when available.

The SofTech has been assigned HCPCS code E2609 for reimbursement from Medicare and other insurance.

How Each SofTech is Customized

Most of the information we use to build the system comes from the order form, such as:

  1. Measurements of the client’s wheelchair seat and anatomy
  2. The client’s weight and height
  3. Postural asymmetry or sitting postures
  4. Tilt and how often the client is in the tilt position
  5. Current pressure sores, location, size and stages
  6. History of flap surgery and locations
  7. Type of chair

We make whatever size cushion the client requests.  Based on the information we receive on the wheelchair cushion order form, we not only make the size needed, but also take into consideration the locations of any current pressure sores, pelvic lean, forward migration or sacral sitting, and the type of seating surface the cushion will be placed on.

We build the cushion so there will be full-time off-loading at the location of one or more existing pressure sores/ulcers. Once the wheelchair cushion is built, we custom program the system for each individual client based on their body weight. The microprocessor will then continually monitor pad pressure and automatically adjust as needed to maintain the selected settings. This ensures the user receives the essential pressure relief necessary to maintain skin and tissue health.

The cushion firmness can be adjusted by the client or caregiver.  This may be desirable when conditions change, such as driving.
